FFT: The invention of the Internet
Warfare seems to be the driving force of innovation. The Internet is a prime example of this. The pre-Internet was built during the Cold War by the American Army. The fear was that a nuclear bomb would destroy the Command Center and effectively kill all communication. This would lead to soldiers not knowing what to do and give an enormous advantage to the enemy army. To counter this problem they built a network with nodes and as long as the nodes worked, there was communication. To kill all communication would require the effort of destroying all nodes. Thus the idea of the pre-Internet was born and built. Nowadays it is hard to imagine that the American Army made the first building blocks of an anarchistic system. There is humor in irony.
